In 2013, the City of Patterson recieved a grant award from the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire) to conduct a city-wide tree inventory. The purpose of this grant program is to fund the creation and implementation of early state urban forestry projects or programs. Early stage projects and programs are characterized by historical absence of an Urban Forestry, Community Forestry, or Urban Greening Program. A tree inventory is the first step to achieving these type of programs.
After an impressive demonstration, Davey's Resource Group was the contractor chosen to conduct the inventory. The City of Patterson has approximately 17,500 which will all be inventoried and surveyed for a wide-range of attributes. These attributes will include at the least, mapping coordinates, location, specie, condition, and age. We will be able to use this data for future tree replacement projects and budgeting purposes. The inventory began October 1 and is expected to take two months.
This grant award was made possible by Proposition 84: The Safe Drinking Water, Water Quality and Supply, Flood Control, River and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2006 and the City of Patterson.
