City of Patterson's Life Guard Academy is a course that follows the American Red Cross life guarding curriculum. Participants will receive a Lifeguard Manual and a CPR mask. Successful completion of Life Guard Academy will result in participants obtaining first Aid, CPR, & AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificates, and Life Guarding Certificates.
Participants must be 15 years old by the last day of class, or older. Participants must pass a pretest that includes a 300 yard swim (100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 either freestyle or breaststroke). Participants must swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10 lb object from at least 10 ft deep and return to the starting point, making sure to keep the brick and their head above the water, while being timed. Finally participants must tread water for 2 minutes without the help of their hands. All components must be successfully completed to participate in Life Guard Academy. Ages: 15 years or older (By the last day of the course) Pre-Test Dates & Times: March 15th & March 17th 5:00 pm Course Dates & Times: April 15th & 22nd - 23rd9:00 am - 5:00 pm April 17th - 20th12:00 pm - 7:00 pm April 21st12:00 pm - 6:00 pm Location: Classes will begin at the Hammon Senior Center and move to the Aquatic Center. Classes will include a 1 hour lunch break each day. Cost: Patterson Resident: $50Non-Resident: $150 Other Details: Registration will be open in person at the Patterson Aquatic Center, after the Pre-test has taken place. Participants must pass the pretest before they can register for Life Guard Academy.
Life Guard Review Course
The Review course is designed to review the lifeguarding skills and core knowledge points required to recertify in lifeguarding.
Prerequisite: Must have current Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED or Shallow Water Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate. Note: If certifications are expired, participants must take the full Lifeguarding or Shallow Water Lifeguarding course.
Ages: 15 years and older Dates: March 24th:3:30 - 7:30 pm March 25th & 26th:12:00 - 4:00 pm Location: Classes will begin at the Hammon Senior Center and move to the Aquatic Center.
